What do you think you can learn from a teabag? It’s a pretty lame question right. This speech will change your viewpoint completely. In this speech I am going to talk about the leadership qualities and lessons one can learn from a teabag. Without any further ado, let’s get started.
1. What matters is what is inside the teabag:
The teabag may have fancy labels; the bag would have been made out of delicate silk which looks very appealing but all that is important is what is inside the teabag. The tea that anyone drinks will taste depending on what the teabag has not the label. No one after drinking tea may say wow that was a great teabag; they will say that was a great cup of tea. That’s the same for us as well the qualifications, the clothes we wear, the car we drive is just the label what really matters is what type of person you are. The labels may portray yourself in a fancy manner but deep down your beliefs and attitude is what defines you.
2. The real flavor is known only when the teabag gets into the hot water:
If you dip a teabag in normal water you won’t know how strong the tea is, unless you dip it into hot water. And only then will the true flavors come out. Similarly our true value will only be know when we are in difficult times, taking the hard path. When a person is in pressure the teabag will be in the hot water, the important part is how the teabag and you handle the pressure.
3. Good teabags look forward to getting into hot water:
When a teabag sees hot water it will be happily waiting to get into it, likewise all of us should always be ready to jump into the problems and solve them. Great leaders love challenge because that’s where they can test their skills and prove themselves.
4. Teabags work wherever they are in the cup:
Once the teabag is dipped into the water, no matter where it is it starts to work to produce the best tea it can. Similarly in our lives we should believe that everyone can become a leader. Not only will the people in the top of the hierarchy become great leaders. Leaders are everywhere, that shouldn’t be determined by where they are.
5. Sometimes one teabag isn’t enough
If the pot is very large then one teabag will not make the tea strong enough. It is best to use another teabag to make the tea perfect. Sometimes in our lives we may face problems and while going to ask for help we feel an urge saying no. Great leaders do sometimes ask help or advice from others. Asking help from others is not a weakness it is also showing one’s strength and confidence.
6. Someone else holds the string, always
No matter how strong the teabag is it always knows that someone else holds the string. Anytime the person can pull the teabag out and throw it away. This is something no one should forget, no matter how powerful you are the string is always held by someone else it can be your boss, stakeholders, the Government anything.
7. Eventually the teabag has to move away
Teabags recognize that once the tea is ready they have to move away, they know that the tea won’t turn back into hot water if they leave. Staying there will only disturb the person who wants to enjoy his cup of tea. Sometimes we have to move on; even great leaders who get attached to their work don’t feel like moving out of the company. A lot may even think that without them the company or the organization won’t survive. That’s when they should remember the teabag.
